Sebastian was born in 1966 and was six years old when he recieved his first cello lessons from his father. After a short period he became a member of the family string-quartet. Sebastian graduated with distinction from such renowned centers as the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and the "Hochschule der Künste" in Berlin. His teachers were Cris Campbell, Steven Doane, Janos Starker, Aldo Parisot, Harvey Shapiro, Wolfgang Boettcher, Georg Faust and the members of the Cleveland Quartet.
Sebastian's orchestral career began already while studying at Eastman, where he played regularely in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. While attending the "Karajan-Academy", he played in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for two years, thereafter being engaged by the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 1995 he was appointed principal cellist of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway, a position he held until 2019. He is now focusing on chamber music performance and teacing.
Sebastian has received "Fine Arts Awards" in cello and composition from the Interlochen Arts Academy, the performer's certificate from the Eastman School as well as prizes at the Competition for Orchestra-Musicians in Gernsbach and the Siegfried-Barchett Cello Competition in Stuttgart. In 1996 he won the distinguished Debut-prize from the Norwegian state.
Besides being an active chamber musician , Sebastian has appeared as soloist with orchestras in Germany, Spain, USA and Norway under conductors such as Mario Venzago, Dimitrij Kitajenko, Simone Young, Marc Piollet, Michail Jurowski, Andrew Litton.

I love it!
(I also have at my disposition a cello by Michael Stürzenhofecker from 2010 and a Goffriller from 1710)

RECENT EVENTS
COVID-19
2020/2021
During covid-19 all activity has been confined to the Bergen area.
Summer 2020 I played as solocellist in two operas with Opera Bergen. In fall 2020 I played at the Bergen International Film Festival and in December 2020 I played 3 concerts with Ensemble Zelenka.
Spring 2021 I have been preparing for a new recording of Bach's cellosuites as well as holding a performance of them in the beautiful Knarvik church.
I also appeared at several smaller events such as the gallery opening of Nerdrum "Father and Son" and at the Amnesty International event for Yulia Tsvetkova in June.
Being fully vacinated my first trip abroad again will be back to Gran Canaria for a Carmen performance in July.

COVID-19 HAPPENED INSTEAD!
As Head of Strings I will be teaching cello and help astablish the string-/chambermusic department at the Vanke Meisha Arts Academy in Shenzhen, China. I will be holding weekly chambermusic-consert and masterclasses in the Shenzhen area.
PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA OF GRAN CANARIA
I will be playing as solocellist with the OFGC several times in the fall 2019 season in the beautiful Consert Hall Alfredo Kraus Auditorium at the beach in Las Palmas.
